This month’s featured WAHM is Elaine K Stephen, Sole Proprietor of Lainee Enterprises. Here is her story.

For many years I had two dreams. One was to have a baby and the other was running my own gift shop business. Unfortunately, I never conceived and the brick and mortar gift shop I envisioned required a lot of upfront investment that I didn’t have. I also wondered how would I care for a child and be able to run a business at the same time.. Finally I decided it was time to stop dreaming and wondering, it was time to start investigating!

After much research, my husband and I decided to adopt a child and I decided to start an online gift shop with drop shipped products. This type of business has low cost start-up fees and would allow me to work from home and care for a child as well.

Being a Christian, I wanted to sell inspirational gifts that express God’s word, Christ’s sacrifice and inspire Christian love, comfort and joy. My goal is for every Christian to be able to afford beautiful, unique and personalized inspirational gifts for all their family and friends for every holiday ans special occasion.

By the grace of God, in November of 2002, I held my son in my arms for the 1st time and in the year 2008, I can honestly say that my Inspirational Gift Gallery web site has climbed to the top of the search engines and is succeeding in its goal.

As a child I fancied the idea of being a writer and I even took a creative writing course in high school. With the necessity of needing to write text for my Inspirational Gift Gallery web site, I found once again that I love writing. I use both true life stories and my inspirational gifts to inspire me in writing for my Inspirational Christian Stories, Poems, Gifts Blog. My Blog is recently getting a lot of visitors and hopefully succeeds in inspiring those who read my original stories and poems, and ends their search for the perfect, affordable, inspirational gift.

I am a proud member of Mom Pack a work at home Mom’s networking group, whose motto is Moms Promoting Moms. I have received valuable information by being a member of this group and have done my best to help others whenever I can. The Mom Pack is great group of women and I proudly display their banner on both my Inspirational Gift Gallery Links page and my Inspirational Christian Stories, Poems, Gifts Blog.

I recently joint ventured with another Mom Pack member and Christian work at home Mom like myself to introduce to the market the first ever Christian Mom Bracelet. This exquisite inspirational gift is already a fabulous hit!

If you are looking to join an online community, you will need to create your own profile or profile page.  If you are planning on joining a traditional social networking website, to gain access to millions of potential new customers, you are urged to be careful when making your online webpage or profile.  One thing that internet users hate is being solicited for business. This does not mean that you cannot use social networking to your advantage; it just means that you need to be careful with how you do it. Instead of creating a MySpace page or a Yahoo! 360 page for your business, you are advised to make one for yourself, but, of course, you will want to include information on your business.

By joining a social networking website, especially one that is popular and has a large number of members, you should be able to generate interest in your business, including the products or services that you sell. Who knows, but that interest generated could turn into sales; thus making your social networking experience more than worth it.
